The online event with the Italian Joomla community, organized by JUG Italia, is back—this time with a decidedly more technical focus. On July 13, 2026, at 4:30 p.m., Luca Racchetti will lead us through a hands-on workshop dedicated to Joomla’s native APIs: we’ll discover what they are, how they work, and why they’re a powerful tool for developers, putting them to the test in real time to create content directly via the API.

Join us online on July 13, 2026, at 4:30 PM for a hands-on workshop where we’ll learn, step by step, how to use Joomla’s native APIs. This won’t be just a presentation: together, we’ll try querying the APIs of a real Joomla site, creating content, and exploring their potential. It’s the perfect opportunity to ask questions, experiment in real time, and take home something you can immediately apply to your own projects.

The session will be held on Zoom. After registering on Eventbrite, you’ll receive the link for the Zoom call directly via email. Although the session will be in Italian, you can choose the language for the subtitles.

Luca Racchetti and the Joomla Core APIs

Luca Racchetti is a well-known developer in the Italian Joomla community. In this workshop, he’ll guide us through a practical, step-by-step process to learn how to leverage the APIs that Joomla provides natively, with a hands-on approach designed for those who really want to dive in.

 

What Are the Joomla Core APIs?

Available in the core starting with Joomla 4 and fully supported in Joomla 5, the native APIs (Web Services) allow you to query and manage the content of a Joomla site via REST, without going through the administration interface. In this workshop, we’ll explore what they are, how requests are authenticated, and how to use them to programmatically read and create content—a powerful tool for integrations, automations, and headless development.

 

Testing the APIs: Swagger and Postman

To work effectively with APIs, you need the right tools. During the session, Luca will demonstrate his extension, which generates Swagger documentation for Joomla APIs and allows you to test them conveniently from your browser. We’ll then explore Postman, another widely used tool for building, sending, and organizing API calls. We’ll use them all together, live, to understand how to integrate them into your workflow.

This session aims to provide the community with technical and hands-on training through:

• A clear and practical overview of Joomla’s native APIs
• Live demonstrations of querying and creating content via APIs

Il 13 luglio 2026 alle 18:30 sarà Luca Racchetti a guidarci in un workshop pratico dedicato alle API native di Joomla: scopriremo cosa sono, come funzionano e perché sono uno strumento potente per chi sviluppa, mettendole alla prova dal vivo per creare contenuti direttamente via API.

Luca Racchetti è uno sviluppatore ben noto nella community Joomla italiana. In questo workshop ci accompagnerà in un percorso concreto e operativo per imparare a sfruttare le API che Joomla mette a disposizione nativamente, con un approccio hands-on pensato per chi vuole davvero mettere le mani in pasta.

Cosa sono le Joomla Core API
Disponibili dal core a partire da Joomla 4 e pienamente supportate in Joomla 5, le API native (Web Services) permettono di interrogare e gestire i contenuti di un sito Joomla via REST, senza passare dall'interfaccia di amministrazione. Nel workshop vedremo cosa sono, come si autenticano le richieste e come usarle per leggere e creare contenuti in modo programmatico: uno strumento potentissimo per integrazioni, automazioni e sviluppi headless.

Testare le API: Swagger e Postman
Per lavorare con le API in modo efficace servono gli strumenti giusti. Durante la sessione Luca mostrerà la sua estensione, che genera la documentazione Swagger delle API di Joomla e permette di testarle comodamente dal browser. Vedremo poi Postman, l'altro strumento ampiamente utilizzato per costruire, inviare e organizzare le chiamate API. Li useremo tutti insieme, dal vivo, per capire come integrarli nel proprio flusso di lavoro.
