During the finalisation stage of Joomla! 1.5 a team of people were working around the clock fixing bugs, testing everything and debating a lot of issues we tried to solve at that time. At that time I was talking to my fellow OSM board team member Ryan Ozimek who is owner of PICnet. I explained him that we constantly seek for skilled people on coding, testing and documentation area. At that time Ryan made it possible that PICnet employees could spend several days helping out with the testing.
In my blog announcing some changes in the bug squad I mentioned Kevin Devine has been appointed in the role of co-maintainer. In the meanwhile, I talked to Ryan, and hinted that it would be nice if he could spend a fixed amount of time to the project, and Ryan has made it possible that Kevin can work on the project every Friday. This is a very good way for companies who use Joomla! in the professional area to share back, I hope there will be more that follow the example of PICnet because this really helps the project grow.
Amy Stephen recently wrote a very good article called "credit". She invites people to help out on extension development. That may sound weird if you look at the Joomla! extension site, there are several thousand of extensions out there. I would like to extend that call for help in a broader perspective, so in the next month or so I will post several blogs explaining the the status and progression of 1.6, some other things we are working on and different ways you can help.
