What Happened to Joomla's Facebook Page?

Dear Joomla Community,

We hope this message finds you well. We wanted to bring to your attention an important and concerning development regarding our official Joomla Facebook page. As many of you may have noticed, our page is currently unavailable, and we want to be fully transparent with you about what has occurred.

What Happened?

On Wednesday 21st August 2024, our official Joomla Facebook page was suddenly suspended by Meta (formerly Facebook) due to allegations of impersonation. This action came as a complete surprise to us, as our page has been active for over a decade - since December 18, 2007; and has served as a vital hub for our community, with 162K likes 158K followers.

We promptly submitted an appeal to Meta, confident that this was a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, despite our efforts, the appeal was denied, and the page has now been removed.

Why Was the Page Suspended?

Meta’s reason for the suspension cited impersonation, suggesting that our page was pretending to be another brand or entity. However, this is obviously not the case. A member of the Meta Pro Team reported that the initial action was taken by AI without human confirmation, and without any notification. Our Facebook page has consistently adhered to Facebook's policies and guidelines since its creation in 2007.

Our Efforts to Resolve the Issue

After the suspension, one of our page admins was able to speak with a member of the Meta Pro Team, however this did not provide a resolution. Despite these challenges, we are actively working to restore the page and are exploring all available options to address this situation with Meta.

What Does This Mean for the Community?

The Joomla Facebook page has been a central platform for sharing updates and all things Joomla. The suspension has undoubtedly disrupted this, and we are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Next Steps

We have formally appealed the suspension once again and are awaiting a response from Meta. We remain committed to resolving this issue as quickly as possible and will keep you updated on any new developments.
