It's hard to believe the end of the summer is here and also the end of the 2009 Google Summer of Code. I wanted to let the community know about what was completed and what's in the future for multisite support. If you aren't familiar with this project you can view the project details here.

I am proud to announce the project has been very successful and exceeds the original goals that we set. Designed to be flexible and robust the multisite component allows site administrators to easily setup and share data between multiple sites. You can easily share content, users, modules, components and much more. We have even allowed the site administrator to pick and choose which tables they would like to share. This is all thanks to the community's wonderful feedback and input on features they wanted to see in this project.

I've recently done a webinar on the component which gets more detailed and has a demonstration of how it works. There is also a help section included within the component if you have questions when using it.

The extension is designed to work with Joomla 1.6, please verify permissions on your Joomla installation are correct. Currently I am working on possible making this extension available for 1.5.

The project download can be found here along with other Summer of Code projects:

If you'd like to follow the project and report issues you can do so here (also nightly trunk is available here):

If you find any issues/bugs with the extension please report them!

It's sad to have such a wonderful summer come to an end, but I am looking forward to continuing to contribute to this extension and Joomla. If you would like to assist in development please feel free to contact me!

As far as some final words, I really would like to thank my mentor (Marius Van Rijnsoever) for all the help, he has been instrumental in the planning of how to implement the idea for this project. Mark Dexter and the whole organization have done a FANTASTIC job of getting students acquainted and comfortable this summer as well as structuring the program. Jennifer Marriott has done an AMAZING job at managing the community blogs. All the mentors and everyone else involved have been really helpful and friendly! The community has always been very supportive and always willing to help test this extension, which really helps. I have really enjoyed my summer and would like to thank everyone for the experience!
