Its been a couple weeks since my last blog post on my Summer of Code project for Joomla Multi-site support. If your not familiar with the project you can read about the project details here. I am finally pleased to announce a beta of the extension.
The extension is designed to work with Joomla 1.6, please verify permissions on your Joomla installation are correct.
This beta offers the very basic functionality that will be available in the extension, every week I will be making a new release with bug fixes and additional functionality.
Currently you can setup separate Joomla installations and share selected tables between installations.
After creating a new multi-site you can edit that site and assign shared tables. This requires knowledge of which each table does. In the coming versions, this will be made more user intuitive and common features will be grouped together.
Currently I have not posted any information on how to manage your DNS settings and point other URL's to your installation, you will have to do this yourself for the extension to work.
Things to be added to next release:
- Administrator area for separate sites will work
- Simplified table options
- Improved URL handling

This Google Code site has a list of current issues, todo list and a list of changes.
I would like to thank those in the community that have privately tested the component for me and provided feedback. This project's goal is geared to be flexible and cater to various needs of site administrators, if you have feedback after testing the extension please let me know.
