It's that time of the year again. We are going to take a look at the current forums at https://forum.joomla.org and see if we want to change anything. One thing is sure, more forums will be archived and/or merged with other forums. A reason for doing this, is to make it easier for people to find out in which forum they should post. Another reason is the movement of the developer communication to the mailing lists. This means a lot of developer forums can be merged together.

Two of the bigger changes we are contemplating is to archive the Showcase forum. Is was perfect when we had nothing else, but a forum is not great in categorizing things like websites or documents. Now that we have the Joomla Site Showcase, the need for this is a lot less.

Another change is that the Feature Requests forums are going to be archived. These forums were started after 1.5 came out to find out which features the community wanted in a new version of Joomla. Now I'm not a developer, but it seems these forums were really good to get an idea of community wants and needs. Once coding for 1.6 got going, the forum got used less and less. We are going to archive it, so it can be looked upon again for future versions of Joomla.

We already had some questions about creating a forum for what is going to be Joomla! 1.6. We will open a forum for 1.6 when the first alpha for 1.6 is going to be released. For the moment, the date for this release is june 22.

If you have any tips and/or ideas regarding the forum, please comment here or post in the Sites & Infrastructure forum.
