Do More... Testing
Become familiar with the new features being introduced in Joomla! 3.3 and give something back to the community. If you are interested in testing (and we hope you are!) getting involved is very easy.
The Patch Tester is a Joomla extension that allows you to easily apply changes from pull requests. This extension helps Joomla community members to test Joomla CMS bug fixes and features, which is necessary before they are added to new releases.
- Download the component from GitHub
- Install the Patch Tester component using the standard Joomla installer
- Choose a Pull Request

Once you have the patch tester installed, its time to test! Filter on the Pull Request ID, apply the patch & follow the test instructions for each item. Make sure you give your feedback on GitHub.

We need two of the main features tested. The instructions are the same are as above.
Test Frontend Module Editing
Search for PR No: 2521
Apply the Patch
Add any kind of modules you wish to test (from backend)
- Make sure "Mouse-over edit icons for" in Global Configuration is set to Modules.
- Go to the front end and login as a super-user
- Click the "Edit Module" icon on top left of modules (this appears when you move mouse over the module)
- Change settings, expand accordions to view more settings
- Click "Save" to save the changes.
- View the changes
- Comment on the Pull Request
Testing instructions for Microdata
Search for PR No: 3252 and Apply the Patch
Backend
- Administration (backend panel) → System → Global Configuration (Site tab) → SEO Settings →you should find a toggle button to enable/disable globally microdata semantics
- Administration (backend panel) → Content → Article Manager → Options (button) → Articles (tab) → you should find a toggle button to enable/disable microdata semantics globally in com_content
- Administration (backend panel) → Content → Article Manager → Edit (edit any article) → Options (tab) → you should find a toggle button to enable/disable microdata semantics in the current article, you should also find a dropdown list for choosing the microdata type
Front-end
Make sure you have you have enabled microdata from the administration backend panel (from the previous step).
You should have enabled the Content - Vote plugin.
- Administration (backend panel) → Content → Article Manager → Edit (edit any article) → Options (tab) → Show Voting (dropdown list) → select Show
- Live Site (frontend) → Single Article (single article view, article from previous step in which you've enabled microdata) → Open the page source code (in firefox ctrl+u) → you shuould see microdata semantics in the html code
- Copy and paste the source in http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets
A Successful test will show you that Google is able to pull semantic data from the page about the content type, Author & ratings.
