Why did you start your Latest News Enhanced extension?
Back roughly in 2009, I was maintaining and working on quite a few sites, mostly associations website and there were quite a few things that I wanted to do that weren't in Joomla! Core at the time. I guess I could have done those for each website as overrides, but I decided that it would be better to create a module that I could install on these multiple sites... Since then Joomla has added quite a few things to its core and I have used that foundation as my basis for what additional features I should add.

What percentage of your time is spent on this extension?
Latest News Enhanced (free & Pro) are with Trombinoscope Contacts and Weblinks Logos my largest extensions today. LNE takes roughly 40% of the time I dedicated to my extensions...

Where do you see Latest News Enhanced going in the coming months?
The current version is 7.3.2 which already does a lot, but I know I am going to be working on making better and more numerous layouts as well as improving the view that allows for articles to be viewed in a table configuration.

What is Latest News Enhanced for?
First, you need to understand Latest News Enhanced exists in two versions:

Latest News Enhanced - a free module version that is like an enhanced version of the latest news module included in Joomla.

Latest News Enhanced Pro is a full-blown component. It handles blog views and is an all-in-one news/articles module presenting the featured, popular, latest, future (even pending), random or related article snippets in a professional looking fashion. It is very flexible and comes with a ton of features while being easy to use.

What advice do you have for someone starting out in Joomla Extensions development?
Start with something small... take a look at some of the small great extensions that are out there to learn, check out the Mattermost community and the Joomla! Developer documentation..

Any last words?

Psst... for those who read all of the way until now, use the discount code: NEWSLNEP20 and you will receive 20% discount off of Latest News Enhanced Pro valid all of Febuary 2025.

C‍SS has been around for a long time and it has become very powerful... many CSS rules are well used and known, some are a lot less known or even experimental.

Today we are going to look at @view-transition

The @view-transition at-rule lets web pages enable seamless visual transitions between documents. Essentially, it allows for smooth animations when navigating between pages of the same origin using only CSS. The easiest way to implement this is by setting the navigation descriptor to auto on the pages where you want the transition effect to occur.

Standard:Crossfade

@view-transition {

  navigation: auto;

}

This feature is not Baseline, it works in Edge and Chrome and Safari for now.

Many operating systems have an option in the accessibility settings to specify a preference for reduced motion. We can use the media query prefers-reduced-motion to see if animations are desired:

@media screen and (prefers-reduced-motion: no-preference) {

@view-transition {

  navigation: auto;

}

}
