On this date, Nicola Galgano will share practical demos and technical insights on Joomla extensions, presenting real-world use cases and integration strategies.

Who is Nicola Galgano

Nicola Galgano, known in the community by the nickname Alikon, is an active member of the Joomla project and author of several open source extensions. His contribution extends to both the development of the Joomla core and the creation of practical and well-documented plugins, such as Task Delete Trashed.

Task Delete Trashed: automation for the Joomla trash

Starting with Joomla 4.1, the Scheduled Tasks system is available, one of the most powerful and still underutilised tools of the CMS. Task Delete Trashed leverages this infrastructure to schedule the automatic deletion of items in the trash, without having to do it manually each time.

The plugin is not limited to articles: it can also manage categories, modules, menu items, and any other Joomla element that supports the ‘trash’ status. Once configured, the task takes care of everything in the background, at intervals defined by the administrator.

Why it is useful in managing a Joomla site

Those who manage sites with a high volume of content know how quickly the trash can accumulate. Forgetting to empty it periodically can negatively affect database performance and backend readability. With Task Delete Trashed, this operation becomes completely automatic, reducing the burden of routine management.

The extension is free, open source and compatible with Joomla 4, Joomla 5 and Joomla 6.

Task Delete Trashed: automazione per il cestino di Joomla

A partire da Joomla 4.1 è disponibile il sistema di Scheduled Tasks, uno degli strumenti più potenti e ancora sottoutilizzati del CMS. Task Delete Trashed sfrutta questa infrastruttura per pianificare l'eliminazione automatica degli elementi nel cestino, senza doverla eseguire manualmente ogni volta.

Il plugin non si limita agli articoli: è in grado di gestire anche categorie, moduli, voci di menu e qualsiasi altro elemento di Joomla che supporti lo stato "cestinato". Una volta configurato, il task si occupa di tutto in background, a intervalli definiti dall'amministratore.
