Back in March of 2013 the Joomla Extensions Directory (JED) Team began drafting a list of requirements to upgrade the JED to Joomla 3.x and improve several areas of the directory. We simply out-grown the system in place. The request for proposal was announced in August 2013 and a vendor, Fabrik, was selected to build the new JED in March 2014. Since March, the Fabrik team has been diligently working and building a completely new, custom extension to meet our needs.

Some of the new key features include:

  • An improved extensions submission process that will automatically screen new submissions for common errors.
  • Improved search functionality.
  • A new review and scoring system.
  • A new ticket system that wraps support and reports into one.
  • A new take on categorization and the use of tags.
  • Improved backend management and auditing.

Over the past 6 weeks we've held a few rounds of beta testing which has helped us identify a number of issues and improve workflows. Thanks to all that contributed their time and effort.

Although we still have a few remaining bugs to fix, the most important show-stopping issues have been resolved.

After months of hard work and countless hours we are please to announce the roll-out of the new site.

Beginning December 8th we will hold a "pre-access" phase for developers to login, update listings and submit new listings on http://dev.extensions.joomla.org

On December 15th we will transfer the http://extensions.joomla.org domain over to the new site.

Between December 15th and 18th we will be holding a small doc-sprint to update documentation to reflect the changes.

As with any big development project there may still be some lurking issues that have yet to be found and could cause dates to shift which will be announced as soon as possible.
