The Gulf Restoration Network is a 15-year-old environmental organization that focuses on the health of the Mexican Gulf. They work throughout the Gulf region, and have been providing independent monitoring of the oil spill. Moreover, they've been pushing BP to be accountable and transparent.
Their website HealthyGulf.org runs on Joomla and has regularly updated blogs on the oil spill's consequences: HealthyGulf.org/blog/. They have also been the beneficiaries of some innovative fundraising:
- A fake Twitter user who satirizes BP's response to the spill has raised $10,000.
- A webdesign firm auctioned off their Webby Award acceptance speech to raise money.
- Threadless.com has created a line of T-Shirts showing a Pelican covered in oil and is donating 100% of profits from their sale.
