The Documentation Working Group is pleased to announce a new look for Joomla! Docs. For the past two months, a select few have been working on improving the look and feel of our docs. Some of the changes will be immediately apparent, such as:
-
All our content is now front and center, with no distractions or clutter. The navigation is now enhanced with new drop down menus.
-
Did I say, “drop down menu” above? Yes, I most certainly did! Drop down menus across the top exist now and they will continue to be enhanced.
-
The new design is totally responsive and in case you don’t know what that means, docs is now mobile ready!
The Docs Team is still working on structuring docs better while it continues to improve content and archive out-dated articles. A special thanks to all those who have been helping out with suggestions and actually contributing to the article improvements. All this work brings us closer and closer to the next task, localising our docs!
If you would like to help us, please consider joining the Documentation Working Group. As always, Joomla! Community members can participate in the Documentation discussions on the Joomla! Docs Mail List.

Today we celebrate the 8th anniversary of the 1st release of the Joomla! CMS

In 2005, a community of software developers and users, from all over the world, decided to stand, together as a whole, and take control of their own destiny.
That resulted in the birth of a new software project, that announced its name on the 1st of September: Joomla!
Over the days of the 15th, 16, and 17th (depending on your timezone), Joomla! 1.0.0 was announced, tagged, and released.

Hundreds of remarkable community members will join the second Joomla! World Conference (JWC) that will be held on November 8-10, 2013 in Boston, Massachusetts (USA). Unfortunately not everyone will be able to attend this great event. For some, the reason will be because of lack of time, for others it will be because of too high travel and accommodation costs. We are unfortunately not able to donate more time to individuals, but we would like to try to provide financial help to those people who cannot afford to attend this conference.
The Joomla! Leadership Team is happy to announce a limited Scholarship programme to enable individuals to attend, who would not have been able to afford to do so, without financial assistance. The Scholarship will not only benefit the recipient but also the wider Joomla! community. These scholarships cover the cost of conference admission and provide assistance with travel and lodging.
We of course respect your privacy and so all applications are made in the strictest confidence.
Applications can be filled by the interested person but also community members can fill the application nominating a candidate.
Anyone is able to apply for a Scholarship but please consider if your attendance is dependent solely on receiving a Scholarship. Scholarships are not to be seen as either rewards or incentives but are based purely on a need for financial assistance.
Each application will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and judged on its own merit and not in comparison to any other application. As the number of scholarships and the amount of money in the scholarship fund is limited the following factors will be taken into account:
- current involvement in the Joomla community (either local or global)
- the potential benefit to the recipient
- the potential benefit to the Joomla community (either local or global)
The deadline for application is September 14th and all applicants will be notified by September 29th.
You can apply for the scholarship over here: [Link removed at: Sun, Sep 15, 2013]
The Joomla World Conference scholarship programme is the first action of a wider initiative created to support the Joomla Community, the Joomla Scholarship Programme. You can find more information of the general programe at: https://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_Scholarship_programme
Important Note: We are seeking volunteers in the Joomla! community to become part of the Scholarship Committee team. The elected volunteers will work on the review the applications for the Joomla World Conference. If you have at least 3 hours per week to contribute to Joomla project in the next 2 months, and you are interested in joining the team, please contact us at .
