Get windsurfing lessons, buy gear & equipment on the sales section or chat with other windsurfers on the forums. Classifieds for windsurfers means that any user can sell their own gear or purchase their windsurfing equipment online.Case Study: School Of Surf is a relatively new web site on Joomla. It started out as a basic html site and then was totally redeveloped using Joomla!. It's previous version was 1.6 until it's recent upgrade to 1.7.
The site is purposed to promote windsurfing and lessons to people in Australia and is proving to do just that. Since the Joomla upgrade and the new template, School Of Surf went from around 3000 Google search impressions a month to over 10 000 impressions per month in a matter of weeks.
The web site uses a weather module that works with Joomla for windsurfers to see current conditions. There is also a Kunena system installed so that users can chat on the forum. There are currently 10 unique members. As the site is only around 2 months old, it's seen a steady increase in member registrations.
The site has a few extensions and plugins, namely xmap, addthis, Jsocial comments, Kunena and a weather module.
The web site features a question of the week which is simple and works as a category list view. Users can comment on each question and the same applies to a news and articles section.
There is also a content rich section for tips & tricks for windsurfers to read, this is an ever growing section but is quite popular already. Most of the content relies purely on Joomla core.
A large section of the web site is for weather, while the module displays current conditions there is pages of weather forecasts for each location. This was done by simple implementation of weather widgets by using a script given by the company.
There is a locations section for users to see their closest windsurfing spot. This was done by using Google maps... a single school of surf map has all the spots added and we simply broke up the different states and added parts of the map to each state using goggles embedded scripts.
Relatively simple site with only one database, but very effective so far.
