We used a ton of the great Joomla extensions for the site including JEvents, Acajoom email mailing list, Frontpage Slideshow, and more.
And to increase usability, we customized the Joomla admin with Custom Quick Icons to place the most used functions on the main admin page.

The one feature here that this site is trying that most church don't have is Virtuemart to sell event tickets. Have to see how this works out for them.
It looks like they use JEvents, not JCalPro for the calendar.

We switched out the calendar to support event registrations.
