The Joomla! Community Showcase ™

Site Profile

Description: Web presence for a small, Jewish Reconstructionist congregation in Ann Arbor, MichiganCase Study: The site needed to serve two different audiences and functions:

(1) To be a "public face" for potential members and the broader community, similar to a corporate presence-type site

(2) To provide regular, updated information to current members, including some of a private nature, allowing us to eliminate printed newsletters and membership director.

Limiting factors: small budget, amateur site developer

What we did:

(1) Used free Jamba template from Joomlashack, lightly modified

(2) Flash Rotator module from Joomlashack, both for eye candy and to give a flavor of group activities and members
Phoca Gallery serves similar functions.

(3) Prominent newsletter links, opens in modal window, serve both functions.

(4) Left column modules mod_jewishDate and mod_shabbat_times are particular to our needs, and draw repeat visits.

(5) Right column mod_events_latest links to Events component, allowed migration of calendar from published newsletter. Any logged in member can add calendar events.

(6) Easily accessible information links in top and left menus.

(7) Joomla Bamboo's JB_FAQ module provides more detailed information.

(8) Confidential information for members links from a separate, left column "Members Menu", visible when a member logs in. This includes a full membership directory, maintained online in a Google spreadsheet and displayed in a Joomla! wrapper.

Report
