Description: The Wellfleet Public Library is a 5 Star library located in the Village of Wellfleet, MA, a small coastal community with an eclectic, arts oriented population, and a huge influx of like-minded summer visitors. Wellfleetlibrary.org is used primarily to keep up to date with the library's many public programs, which include speakers, performers, readers, seminars, and other classes. The library posts new acquisitions on wellfleetlibrary.org, a popular area of the site. Built into wellfleetlibrary.org is a youth site called The Wellfleet Republic of Young People. This area of the site is designed both as an outreach to parents and a place for young writers and artists to showcase their work.Case Study: We choose to use Joomla 1.6 for this site- even though this version was fairly new at the time. Because of 1.6's ACL capabilities, it was possible to easily create user groups for staff, the Friends of the Library, and for our youthful contributors that would restrict editing capabilities and access to particular areas of the site. The greatest area of concern was that the events calendar be clear, accessible and easy to navigate. The site's style is built around the Library Mermaids, which were drawn by a local artist about 20 years ago and have come to be closely, and fondly, associated with the library.
