In less than a year, Gazzetta has climbed to the top 30 list of the most popular websites in the country, with over 6 million visits per month.Case Study: Gazzetta has been the most challenging project so far for Komrade. Not only is it a website full of custom features and various web services, it's also a very high-traffic website. It's the second time we utilized Softlayer's excellent datacenter services and custom CDN to host and serve this 1MB monster (for the first page load). Concurrent users may reach 3-4 thousand in peak hours.
Komrade implemented numerous performance tweaks to the Joomla! base code and over 25 custom extensions for Gazzetta, among which two live correspondence applications for football and basketball games (based on ajax technologies), integration with Wordpress based blogs, web services retrieving statistics/scores/other sports data, a web service to showcase newspaper/magazine covers, numerous modules to retrieve content from Joomla! and a lot more.
Gazzetta is also a website growing extremely rapid. In less than a year, over 30,000 articles have been written by over 30 professional journalists, without accounting to this the content written on the blogs.
The entire Gazzetta network consists of the main Joomla! 1.0.x based website, 6 Wordpress blogs and 1 Joomla! 1.5.x based blog. The transition to the Joomla! 1.5.x platform is scheduled soon for all Wordpress blogs plus the main website.
Gazzetta is integrated with Google Ad Manager to serve most ads to its visitors and makes use of Google Analytics and Mint for visitor statistics.
