Description: Tourism portal for the Island of Cumbrae in Scotland. The site includes an online calendar of events taking place on the island in 2009. Just launched in May 2009, the site is designed to promote the island as a tourist destination. The first stage is now live and it will be constantly updated throughout the year.Case Study: The site replaces an existing site which had become very dated and limited in its performance. The new site required options for external authors to provide additional content and had to have further development potential.

After looking at a number of options, Joomla 1.5 became the preferred platform since it provided a wide range of extensions. A Yoothemes template system was selected and enhanced with the addition of an online calendar and a 'send a postcard' system.

This was my first application using Joomla and while the learning curve proved steep at first until the concept was grasped, I have been very impressed with its capabilities and now plan to use if for further projects.
