I was looking for a clean, "flash" look without actually using any flash or complicated extensions etc. We were going for an understated design to put the focus on the photos.
The result was achieved by sourcing a clean template, installing and modding some listed extensions, wrapping a couple of PHP scripts etc.
Everything except the template and the hosting was free.
