Site Profile
Description: Colbie Caillat music is an incredible source for all songs, lyrics and news with regards to Colbie Caillat. The website lists tour dates, a Colbie Caillat Bio and a link to download all songs via iTunes.Case Study: The Website Colbie Caillat Music.com has a ton of Joomla resources and components that makeup the entire website. First and foremost the website template was purchased through YooTheme and is There yooCloud template. The yooCloud template offered the exact type of fun and playful theme that goes along with the musical artist Coblie Caillat. Plus yootheme offers incredible components that aid in the development process. One of these components in particular is their latest release "WidgetKit" which combines their tools: Accordion, Gallery, Lightbox, Map, Media Player, Slideset, Slideshow and Spotlight. The biggest change in the combination of all of these tools into the one Widgetkit is that they used to be seperated out into their own module. And you'd have to create a new module for every different location that you wanted to place something. Now it's just as simple as copying a shortcode and placing it where ever you want... even inside a article, another module etc. Great flexibility.
Some of the standarized installed components that were installed as well were: Akeeba Backup, JCE, MyBlog and sh404sef. All of these components should be the basis for all Joomla websites in my opinion.
By far the biggest task that I had to accomplish was adding a directory of all Colbie Caillat's Albums along with songs. For this I used Mosets Tree component and it worked incredibly well for setting up all of the descriptive links (for SEO and internal linking structure).
I also setup a Newsletter module directly from MailChimp (joomlamailer) for all users who were wanting monthly newsletters emailed to them with updates on music, news and tour info. It was nicely integrated as a component and a mondule on the frontend.
All in all the website came together very well and I was impressed with how Joomla 1.7 handled everything. Even though 1.7 has only been out for a couple months, I didn't even have one error message throughout the entire process. Very smooth!
