TNAwrestling.com is today one of the most visited Joomla! websites worldwide, with over 2 million unique visitors per month.Case Study: Komrade re-designed the TNA website using mainly JoomlaWorks extensions plus a few custom made ones, like the Show Countdown component.
Extensions used: Frontpage Slideshow with custom template, AllVideos, Simple Image Gallery Pro, UCD, Simple Image Rotator, ArtBannersXTD, Minted Admin Template for Joomla! 1.0.x, Tabs & Slides (module), Media Manager XTD, JCE, joomlaXplorer, Extended Menu.
Hosting is based on Softlayer and a CDN network to handle the traffic load. The CDN solution was chosen and implemented to handle extreme traffic spikes especially after each Sunday show, when concurrent users (users visiting at least one page at the same time) may reach about 10,000.

This is a great example of a large portal utilizing joomla. It appears theres alot of custom html modules and i like how they've implemented the latest and featured news modules.
This is my perception of what joomla could be. I am still trying to achieve this level of creativity. Very nice
