2008-09 Joomla! Community Magazine
Wilco Jansen opened the September Joomla! 3rd Birthday issue by sharing great extensions now available from the Google Summer of Code 2008. Chris Davenport introduced Joomla!'s Mission, Values, and Vision while Alan Langford introduced the Joomla! Security Strike Team. Site developer, David Umlaf, showed off his very cool Philly Roller Girls Web site. Internationally, from Cape Verde to Brasil, people are using and talking about Joomla!. Chris Szabo is ranting about J! (or is he?) and Dion Hinchcliffe of ZDNet declares Joomla! the #1 platform for creating online communities.
Wow! Wasn't this a great month of learning material? Russ Winter kicked off his regular column designed to help the community take care of their Web sites. If you are looking to build a community site, check out Kevin Devine's article Extending the User Object. Arno Zijlstra shared a starter template package and secrets to working with Module Chrome. Casey Lee, another well known designer, shared professional techniques for adding styling parameters to articles. Google charts, anyone? Rob Schley shows you how. Finally, Hannes Papenberg adds Terms of Use Acceptance process to normal Joomla!'s Registration. That ought to keep us learning for awhile.

Award winning illustrator and author, Sarah Verroken, and creative, Per André Rønsen each showcased innovative Joomla! 1.5 Web sites. In the community section, Joomla! August's Learning section includes a very popular tutorial for those just getting started entitled Learning Joomla! using Sample Data, a helpful guide to Improving the Security of the Joomla! In addition, Part 1 of what looks to be a series of Ajax Tutorials entitled Dynamic Loading of lists using AJAX in a MVC component was published. 2008-07 Joomla! Community Magazine
July 2008 was the first monthly issue of the Joomla! Community Magazine and it started things out with a bang. Joomla! Core Team Member and Communications Team Lead, Louis Landry, introduced the magazine and shared promising indicators of Joomla!'s success. Cool, new Joomla! 1.5 Extensions were shared, along with the Forum Member of the Month announcement. In each issue, stories about Joomla!'s international community, events around the globe, and opportunities for involvement make visible our greatest asset, and that is people.
One of the more important goals of the magazine is providing learning material for a broad range of skillsets and interests. As a result, new learners, people looking for migration information for Joomla! 1.5, those interested in localization and translation topics, and even highly technical individuals who want to create an LDAP from scratch will find a good read. Finally, updates from development, spotlights on various working groups, and other project activity help you stay up-to-date on the latest with Joomla!.
