Involvement: Pizza, Bugs and Fun II

Well, IRC and virtual pizza for most of us

Written by Wilco Jansen

On May 30, the second Pizza, Bugs and Fun event was announced. We extended this event over two weekends at the request of community members unable to attend earlier. During the first weekend, there were 15 people, or so, idling in the IRC channel all the time. A lot of great discussion went on and three participants joined the Joomla! Bug Squad. During the second weekend, even more people participated.

Most people joined in the bazaar virtually and there were small teams at locations in Catalan, the Netherlands, and Palma de Mallorca, Italy in Europe; at Georgia Tech, New Orleans, New York City, and Washington DC in the United States; in Vancouver, BC, Canada; and in Sydney, Australia. Judging from the pictures and comments, everyone had a good time.

We had people helping from each of the Working Groups. One Joomla! User Group pitched in. A team from Georgia Tech took part. Yes, that is a pool in the background where members of the Joomla! Italy community are working. Many students and mentors from the Google Highly Open Participation Contest and Google Summer of Code program took time to help. Participants not only squashed bugs but they also worked on documentation. The issues solved will help lead to the release of Joomla! 1.5.4, we target to release one week after the PBF event. This will be a valuable stability release including fixes for many issues that have been reported on the tracker.

The second Pizza, Bugs and Fun event was certainly as successful as the first PBF event. We sincerely thank all contributors for participating in the PBF event!
