Events: A story about Joomla! - around the globe
Joomla! Days
Written by Alex Kempkens
If you look at the Web site of Joomla!, you will find many, many people talking to each other. Most of them have unusual names, such as mastermind, osokin, speedbit or many, many others. Actually there are about 200.000 names registered - but come on, these names are not real, or are they?
There is one moment in time when you realize that these names are real, very real. The moment is when you stay in front of a crowd that is closely listening to every word you say. It is the moment when you are speaker of a Joomla! Day somewhere on this globe. And, yes, Joomla! events are held all around the globe. This year, we have already been in ten countries staring with "A" for Australia and ending with "T" for Thailand. And there are far more to come.
The posters of the 12 events Joomla! communities have organized all over the world in only the first half year creates an impressive gallery. Just relax and enjoy for a second.
On most of the events, members of the local community meet with Joomla! working group and core team members. New ideas, contributions and much more are discussed. The information about the events are posted in the public and looking at the pictures on all of the various sites is impressive. All the feedback we get is positive and also for all members from the big Joomla! sphere traveling there it is an overwhelming experience.
These excellent examples of community commitment and community contributions are even toped by the various events organized by the local Joomla! user groups (JUG's) for their people. Helping each other on a regular base and doing a lot of support as well. These events are the source for a second row of events which is really active contributing to the Joomla! project.
The first bug squeezing event in December 2007 was a great success with over three locations worldwide held on the same weekend. Now this year we plan the second set of these events with also several locations worldwide helping together on the weekends of the 21st and 28th of June. Pizza, Bugs and Fun is the name of this event and it really has a lot of interaction with developers with commit access in each location. Now, how close can you get to the source code of Joomla! elsewhere? The answer is simple: No where!
For us, the work involved in making Joomla! events happen will go on and we have already events proposed in South Africa, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, Colombia, Sweden, Vietnam, India, and the United States. If you like, we will come even to your town. Just get in touch with us and we will try to make it happen.
Just think, maybe soon you see your city on the front page of joomla.org.

We're a Joomla developer team, and we were going to publish 1-2 extension every week.
