Tabs Come to the Accessible Administrator Template
Written by Andrea Tarr
My project creating an Accessible Administrator Template is coming along. I've restructured part of it. The different submenus lacked clarity so I switched to a tabbed menu and moved them above the toolbar icons. This makes it more obvious what section you are in. As you look at the graphic you will also note that I have pulled out most of the styling, going back to almost a wireframe. Once I get the functionality in place, I will look at adding more styling back in as well as updating the icons/images as appropriate.
The weblinks component layout files have been redone and I've started user testing. I expect that more changes will need to be made when I get the results.
The toolbar icons currently use a table layout. The html code for that is buried within the Joomla library and I need to work up a patch for that.
The good news is that the MVC work on the backend has been picked up by a number of volunteers so I should be able to devote more of my time on the various layout files.
There have been some good discussions on the developer-cms google group on usability changes for the backend. I expect that I will be implementing some of those, but I haven't done so yet.
