The Joomla Resources Directory is Finally Here!
Written by Wendy Robinson
Today was the official launch of the Joomla Resources Directory (JRD) which took place at JoomlaDay NL thanks to Antonie DeWilde who presented the the site to the audience in Nieuwegein.
After our recent Testing phase where we invited a number of folks to submit early to the JRD, we found that things were running pretty smooth and we decided it was time to open up the Directory to the Joomla Community.
You'll probably find that on first glance, the JRD looks a lot like the the Joomla Extensions Directory. The JRD is using the Moset's Tree 2.1 directory extension, which is the same component that runs the Joomla Extensions Directory as well as the Community Showcase site.
However, the JRD is going to be different in that it is not just going to focus on Extension Developers or Designers... but on all Joomla related Services. It's going to be a really great way to bring end users in contact with service providers within the community.
For now all listings will be free, however sometime in the future we do intend for there to be paid premium listings. We'll let you know more about that a little later on.
As with all new things, we do expect there to be some growing pains as we adjust to our new roles as JRD editors and find a good pace we can all work comfortably within. So, as always, your patience is much appreciated.
I hope to follow up very soon with more information but for now I'd like to start a huge round of applause for my fellow JRD team members, Lee Cher Yeong, Steven Trullinger and Jennifer Marriott and to Brad Baker and Andrew Eddie who set the stage for the JRD. Also to the folks from JED who have been giving us a hand these past few weeks with their advice and expertise, thanks guys.
If you need to get hold of the JRD team, you can find us over in the JRD forum.

This is really a great news.

It's difficult to comprehend precisely what this stands for or accomplishes, besides making life more difficult and time-consuming for average J! users who are trying to locate the extensions they need / want and the people who produce them.

I am afraid you are mistaken. I think you need to read the TOS for the Resource Directory. It follows all the same requirements as the Extension Directory.

If you look at the last item under Rules in the JRD Terms of Service, you'll find that we do ask that all resources comply with OSM's license and other policies.
Actually, after reading your comment here I elaborated on that rule a bit and included a link to the OSM trademark and license policies page.
I hope that clears up confusion. If you happen to notice a resource that does not comply with those guidelines but is listed in the directory, please send an email to team@resources.joomla.org to let us know so that we may rectify the situation.
Thanks.

That should put your theories to rest, at least on this point. I am sure you have other complaints to make however.
Anyway.. can't please everyone...
