There may be 9 million bicycles in Beijing..

..but who could ever, then back in late summer of 2005, have imagined this Joomla! software being downloaded more than 1 million times? I for sure didnt have the slightest clue that this amazing community would just grow and grow.

Still getting impressed by the amount of people joining the community each day and their great contributions, and occasionally then there is one of these "Wow" situations that make you think: This is huge!9 million downloads of Joomla!

Had one of these "Wows" this evening, when randomly checking for new language packs from the international community, and then had my eyes stopping at a this 8,999,...

You don´t even think of this when working with all the nice and friendly people in the community each day, so it was quite amazing to update the page and see 8,999,412 become 8,999,518 shortly after. Made me curious and another refresh seconds later ,583..

What else to do than wait a few mins. and there it was - almost.

Didnt get that special 9 mill. edition of joomla!, but I feel good with having one of the other 8,999,999

Dont worry, think we have a few copies left. so go grab one of the 9,000,000+ and make us proud of inviting you inside the world of joomla!

  1. This is amazing. I am impressed more and more each day by the Joomla community and to see it continue to grow at such a pace makes me glad to be a part of it.
  2. Very cool. We should have a party at 10 million.
  3. I agree - we need a 10 million download party.
  4. Its all about people behind the community - that's the power and that's why I love Joomla.

Hope we head for the right direction for the future too.
  5. Fantastic! During almost two years we reached this milestone in the Joomla! downloads. Please keep in mind, this amount is even more, because the fully localized international Joomla! releases are not included. I am hardly waiting to count the download statistics with 8 digits ;)
  6. Great idea Amy!
Maybe publishing a counter down, give us a good motive for a universal Joomla! Party. ;-)
Well... is an idea... i'm very happy for that!
  7. It's Steve's idea. Just want to make sure that's clear 'cuz he's responsible then to get it organized! hehe!

Hope he uses your idea of a count down counter. That might be cool on J! Web sites world-wide.
  8. Amy True, it's Steve's idea.;-)

Hey Steve! My site is governmental but I am sure that in the position 'debug' could put a discret 'count down module'. Will can propose it to some colleagues.

Really, +95% of government sites from my country are developed on Joomla!. There is much that we must thank to Joomla!
  9. I am not surprised by the numbers of the core download. I am however surprised to see the number of extension downloads, for the most popular. Think about the economic activity that is taking place because of the over half a million Joomla/Virtuemart. Spanish Joomla es muy popular! Much more than I thought.
