Joomla Connect Feeds Hit with a Hammer

There have been several non joomla.org blog posts about the current situation of the feed content appearing in Joomla Connect.
To this end, without giving several URLs to the many blog posts appearing questioning why their posts have been removed and in some cases dropped altogether, here are some reasons.

So far I have taken a step back approach to (mostly spam) reports on the Joomla Connect Feed. However I and many others will now be a bit more vigorous on the feeds and posts.

Those that don't comply with the terms of carrying the feed and posts will be removed.

Quote:

Please note that acceptance of a feed does not guarantee that all posts from that feed will be published on JoomlaConnect. Individual items may be unpublished at the discretion of the Joomla Site Team

When you put your feed request in, you agreed to it and were reminded of it when we informed you that your feed had been added.

Other points to note.

* While it is not up to the connect to dictate the content of the feeds coming in, we have the right not to carry that feed. Whats to stop people just feeding any old rubbish our way or mentioning the word joomla?

* IF people actually reported the bad feeds, then it would help!

Yes, it can be seen that people will flood the feed with their latest minor version update news everyday, or announce their training course, then remind you and then tell you the tickets are sold out. But keep it in the spirit of Joomla.

Again - if you see a bad post or feed in one of the many languages I do not speak report it within the spirit of being part of the Joomla! Community!
Please see

if you have any questions.

  1. To be honest, I'm just not seeing a lot of non-Joomla posts, so, you must be catching these things things pretty quickly. I tend to have a pretty close eye on these things.

What are seeing? Maybe we aren't understanding the rules. Could you provide examples of posts that you have had to remove that are not related to Joomla!, but are fed to Connect? I'm starting to think there might be a failure to communicate.

My impression is people are trying to comply, so if there are problems, examples can be helpful. Reaching for a hammer right away can just be bad karma. In a community setting, a bit of undeserved patience can go a long ways.

Any luck fixing our All Together, As a Whole link? It still goes to the Community home page.

Also, it would make sense to update the quote since there hasn't been a Communications Team for at least six months.
  2. HI Amy,
without mentioning names but they know who they are...
how about 7 posts promoting Wordpress themes, and a post promoting phpbb styles (without mentioning a Joomla equivalent). It was just the posts and not the feed that was disconnected.

Good point on the comms team, there are still a few changes happing to the connect pages as we discover them. eg the new "add a name for your feed" to prevent me making one up!

The techies are still out on the reason why your feed keeps going to the connect page ( I did try and sort it as you know), along with the integration of captcha within the report page:'(
  3. That was a very nice answer, thanks!

Those details make all the difference in the world, thank you. You know it goes, those of us who try to follow the rules feel worry immediately that maybe we weren't being "joomla enough" and those who are not even thinking about the importance of sharing Joomla! posts with the Joomla! feed don't read these posts! :P

So, your examples (without naming names) do help people realize your hammer is reserved for those who need to wake up.

You do good work. You are always very prompt and polite and considerate. I appreciate you and your professional answers. Thanks!
